Welcome to the Footloose Freelancer Blog

For this inaugural blog post, I thought it only fitting that I introduce myself and give you a little color around what you’ve just stumbled into. Hello. My name is Dena, and I’m the Footloose Freelancer.

The business of hiring myself out, of using my words to tell your story, that’s brand spanking new. But the absolute elation I get when I have the opportunity to craft something beautiful or meaningful or surprising with words – that dates back to my earliest memories of holding a pencil.

I simply love words. And I love that, at this juncture in my life, I have the opportunity to allow writing to be more than my passion – it’s now my calling. My choice. My career.

Not only am I writing full time as a freelancer, doing fun and diverse projects that I’ll be able to share more about along the way. But I’m doing it in a way that works best into what I’m affectionately calling my Footloose and Fancy Freelance Life!

I’m choosing jobs that are fun, or important, or challenging. Some once-and-done gigs and some short term assignments, so each day is different. And a few long term, recurring opportunities like blogging for other business sites, so there are some elements of my work weeks that will be consistent. Freelancing allows me to spread my wings, to try a million different ways to write words that work, and to make sure I’m spending my time doing more than earning an income, but also doing meaningful work that helps my clients achieve their goals.

For a person like me that’s hard-wired for team, that finds such satisfaction in helping others to shine, there’s no greater or more rewarding way to contribute.

One of the greatest advantages of being the Footloose Freelancer is that I can write for my clients and spin my own tales anywhere that my laptop can go with me. I love traveling, adventuring, and discovering just about as much as I love words, and am always most inspired when I’m experiencing something new.

So be on the lookout for future blog posts. Sometimes I’ll lean into the Footloose and Fancy Free me and share my musings about wherever my feet might be planted in that moment. Other times, I’ll be waxing eloquent about the Freelancer lifestyle – both professional and personal.
